The short version: Putaway works entirely on your Mac. It never uploads your files, has no analytics or tracking, and doesn't need an account.
Your files
Putaway reads the files in folders you choose (their names, types, dates, sizes and previews) so it can sort them. Photos may be looked at by Apple's on-device Vision framework to tell, for example, a selfie from a receipt. All of this happens on your Mac. Your files, their contents and their names are never sent anywhere.
Putaway keeps a history of the sorts it has done, so you can undo them. That history stays on your Mac, in Putaway's own app folder, and you can clear it at any time from History.
What the app sends over the internet
- License activation (website version only). When you activate a license, Putaway sends your license key and your Mac's name to Polar, our payment provider, so the key can be tied to up to 3 Macs. Putaway re-checks the key at most once a week. Nothing else is included.
- Update checks (website version only). Putaway asks our server whether a new version is available. This request includes the app version and your macOS version, like any download.
The Mac App Store version doesn't contact us at all. Purchases and updates go through Apple.
Purchases
Purchases on this website are processed by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and handles payment, tax and receipts. We receive your email address and order details so we can send your license and help with support. Polar's handling of your data is described in its own privacy policy. Mac App Store purchases are handled by Apple; we don't receive your personal details.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers when you visit.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Putaway shows you when it has tidied a folder. These are created on your Mac; nothing is sent to a server.
Children
Putaway isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for meaningful changes, mention it in the release notes.
